Winter in Ukraine was particularly harsh this year. Temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius coincided with a power grid that was destroyed in many places. Heating systems fail, apartments cool down to freezing, and stairwells are icy. For older, sick, or already frail people, even stepping outside becomes an enormous effort.
In this situation, it’s not just material aid that matters—it’s the knowledge that one is not forgotten. That’s why we procured camping stoves with spare cartridges, organized hot water bottles, and collected warm clothing. Together with Aktion Kleiner Prinz and the Free Church Congregation of Warendorf, the relief supplies were transported to Kyiv and the surrounding regions and distributed there.
Time and again, we hear on the ground just how much this support means. It’s not just the warm hands holding a hot water bottle or the chance to prepare a hot meal. It’s the palpable solidarity. The awareness that people in Germany are thinking of them, empathizing with them, and taking action. Especially during a long war, this form of connection is a sign of hope—and a source of strength for many.
